Lennie Honcoop is a creative quilt designer, award-winning quilter, popular lecturer and workshop leader, and enthusiastic host of retreats. Lennie’s business name, Dutch Quilter, reflects her heritage – she was born in The Netherlands and lived there until immigrating to the US in 1971.
Lennie’s background is in the fine arts, having painted with oils, water colors, and acrylics and having drawn with charcoal and pen. For many years, Lennie passed on her love for the arts as an art teacher at the elementary and high school levels until an accident resulted in the loss of the fine motor skills in her hands. Lennie’s love of artistry and desire to continue her creativity led to quilting and quilt designing. The talent for design, perspective, and color selection that Lennie developed as a multi-media artist is reflected in all her designs.
Over the recent past, Lennie has expanded her scope of designing to designing fabrics. She has had several successful lines of fabric that draw on her previous quilt designs – flowers, fall leaves, Christmas scenes, and lighthouses.
Lennie pioneered the use of Hot Ribbon for embellishing appliqué, thus giving people a way to finish appliqué without stitching. She is now regarded as the leading international authority on the Hot Ribbon technique. Her patterns and her books have shown thousands of people how easily and quickly one can make her spectacular designs.
